Yesterday Patrick had a day off, so we dropped the kids at school and decided to hit the beach in Puerto Morelos. The grey skies I mentioned here have gone away and brought some really beautiful weather. Yesterday was a fantastic beach day. Not a cloud in the sky, the sun was high in the sky and it wasn't too hot.
So we drove the 15 or so minutes and this is what we found.
The beach was empty! Every other time we have been to the beach at Puerto Morelos it has been pretty crowded so I don't know if it is always like that during the week (we have only been there on weekends), or if this is just a slow tourist week. Anyway, we decided to go walking along the shore to see some beach houses down the way before getting wet. As we walked we also noticed how calm the water was, reminiscent of some St. John beaches :( About halfway through our walk Patrick spotted a sting-ray right up close to the shore! I didn't have my camera with to capture that though. He thought it was dead at first, but the he kind of disturbed the sand around it and it moved away, so it was definitely alive.
After about an hour of walking we cooled off in the water and suntanned a little bit, well I should say I suntanned, Patrick just has two shades, white or burnt-red since he refuses to wear sunscreen. We saw a few people and a couple with their dog, which made us wish our puppy had come along. Before long though we had to leave to pick up the kids from school, so we dusted off our sandy feet and hopped in the car back to Cancun.
It really was a perfect beach day.
